Publicize Your Recipe
Help us find your recipes!
- Links to your recipes can appear in as many places as you want. Use tags to make your recipes land on the relevant menus.
- Set up your Ladies' Kitchen page. Copy and paste the Kitchen Code to generate automatically updating lists of the recipes you posted.
- Use tags! Click the blue "tags" link at the bottom of any page. Insert tags like your name (so people can search your recipes), category words like "vegetarian", dish types like "salad", cuisine type like "Portuguese", or main ingredients like "avocado."
- New recipes appear automatically on the homepage and on the New Recipes! page (see side-bar menu).
Add Your Recipe to a Menu
Your recipe can appear under multiple menus. For instance, you can have links to a favorite soup in both your Profile page and the Soup and Stew menu.
- Open the Menu you'd like your recipe to appear under.
- Click "edit" at the bottom of the page.
- Simply type in the name of your recipe between three brackets: [Italian Garbanzo Bean Stew]. ( Alternative method: Insert a link to your recipe by using the "page link wizard". The page link wizard is one of your Easy Buttons above the editable window. It's in the middle row. Scroll over them until you find it and follow the instructions )
- Click "save" at the bottom of the page.
Useful Code
Here's some useful code. Sometimes you need spaces; sometimes you don't. So if it's not working, try adding or deleting a space.
Code | Effects |
---|---|
++ HeadingTitle | Creates a Heading |
+++ SubHeadingTitle | Smaller Heading |
# NumberedItem | Numbered List |
* ListItem | Bulleted List |
**bold** | Makes bold |
------ | 6 dashes create a line across the page |
[internal page link name] | Brackets on each side of a page title create a link to a page. If the page doesn't exist, it creates a page. |
[page title you want] | Make a page's visible title different from the actual title. |
If you want more, use the Easy Buttons above the editable window or consult the "wiki syntax description" blue link below the editable window.
How To Add a Menu Category to the Side-Bar Menu
- Click on the blue "edit this panel" link at the bottom of the side-bar menu.
- The side-bar menu will appear enlarged in the main screen.
- Click the blue "edit" at the very bottom of the screen (not the "edit this panel" link).
- An editable window will open.
- Write the name of your new category. Ex: ++ [Salads]
- YOU DID IT!
Set Up an RSS Reader
By using it, you can get live updates from all of your favorite sites at the same time. An RSS reader works just like email—whenever a website you are tracking (i.e., Ladies Recipes, NYTimes Most Emailed Stories, your friend's blog, etc.) posts something new, a linked message will be delivered to your reader. Instead of visiting multiple websites to check for new content, the content comes to you! And it's all in one place.

Add Photos to your recipe!
It's pretty easy to add photos to your recipe. Here's how you do it.
Take Pictures As You Cook
Using a digital camera, take pictures of your ingredients, techniques, and steps as you go. You might want to take multiple pictures to get a good shot.
Upload Your Photos to Your Computer
I use Picasa software because it makes it easy for me to upload my photos to my Google Picasa online photo account. Scroll through the photos to choose only the ones you want to post.
Upload Your Photos to the Internet
Upload your photos to a site from where you can link, like Picasa or Flickr.
Insert Photos into Your Recipe
You can insert a photo by using this code:
image URL OF IMAGE
To find the URL of your image, first open your image on the website. Make sure you open the biggest possible version of your image. If you are working in Firefox, right click on the image, and click "Copy Image Location.” That is the URL of your image.
Now just insert the URL into the code.
Customize Your Image
To make your image float to the left of your text, add this code:
f<image URL OF IMAGE
To make your image smaller, assign a specific width using this code:
image URL OF IMAGE width=“300px”
To get the image URL from Flickr:
- Go to your Flickr page.
- Click on the photo you want.
- Click on "All Sizes" on the menu directly above the photo.
- Scroll down to get to Option #2 "Grab the photo's URL"
- Copy and paste the URL into the code.
Create a framed photo on the right or left side of the page
- Copy and paste this code:
div style="margin:0 1em 0.5em 0; float:left; border: 2px solid silver; background-color:#FFFFFF;"
table
row
cell style="background-color: #203819; width:... px;"
=image url of the picture width="... px" alt="text under the picture" link="name of the page that you want to link the picture with (optional)"
/cell
/row
row
cell style="text-align:center; width:... px; font-size:80%; font-style:italic; background:#D8D8BF; color:#203819; border:1px solid silver"
text under the picture
/cell
/row
/table
/div
- Adjust the code to suit your needs: change "left" to "right" to have the framed photo appear on the right side of the page. Type in how large you want the photo (start with width=300px). Copy and paste the URL of the photo after image=. Add your caption after caption=
Rating
You can rate recipes. Only positive ratings are currently allowed. If you try a recipe and like it, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "rate" next to "edit." Then click the little plus sign that appears. Done!
