Eggless Tom and Jerry

I came home from work/school today totally exhausted. I had had a crappy lunch and tons of sugar, I was horrified to find upon leaving lecture at 5:30 that the sky was completely black, and I was fatigued after a long night of Obamania.

When I got home, my fragility was further tested. Dishes were piled in the sink—a completed unacceptable situation when one is starving and needing to cook. I took a bathroom break, only to find that my toilet was clogged. Indeed—life had taken me to the edge.

I felt weak. Hungry. Desperate. I needed a comforting drink. I was out of wine, and the ONE DAY I wanted hot cider with a strong shot of rum, I lacked the ingredients. Help!

After much searching, I came upon the Tom and Jerry. The only problem—the recipe called for eggs. Now, the idea of using raw eggs in a drink sickens me—call me a philistine. So I left them out, and made this version instead:

¾ cup milk
1 oz dark rum
1 oz brandy
1 tsp sugar or to taste
dash of vanilla extract
dash cinnamon

1. Heat the bejesus out of the milk in the microwave: I like 2 minutes. I like the taste after it gets a little boily.
2. Stir in the vanilla, sugar and cinnamon.
3. Add the booze!

Sugar is ESSENTIAL. Don’t be stingy. Add more if the drink is not completely delicious.
