Yes, my uncles are cooks. Mark and his wife invented this sauce while on vacation in the mountains and call it "Duck Sauce," but I cannot remember the significance. It contains no ducks. As I recall, it is very flavorful and makes a ton so is good for family gatherings. I haven't had it in ages but just came across the recipes whilst reorganizing my cookbooks and recipes. I have never made it, but remember eating it at their house with pleasure - especially since the uncles are generous with their wine.
Olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 lb Italian sausage
1 quart Classico sauce
1 cup ketchup
2 jars sliced mushrooms, drained
1 or 2 diced tomatoes
1/2 bottle red wine
2 Tbs dried basil
Heat olive oil in very large pot. Add garlic and saute for just a minute or two - do not allow to brown. Add meats and brown thoroughly; no pink should remain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 40 minutes to an hour to blend flavors.
